Fly Fishing Proposal

I think that a great way of asking someone to marry you is while you’re doing something you both like to do together. My husband asked me to marry him while we were out fly fishing together…we were on one of our favorite streams and we had stopped, as we always do, at 4pm to have some wine, cheese and crackers.

As we sat there by the river, sipping our wine, he said he couldn’t think of anyone he loved more and would I marry him–it was perfect. We may not have looked our best while we were wearing our waders, but we had just spent a lovely day together enjoying the outdoors and catching some nice fish.

There wasn’t anyone else involved, just us and I thought it was perfect (of course, I said yes). That was almost 30 years ago and we still fly fish together, we still stop by the side of the stream at 4pm for wine, cheese and crackers, and we still love each other just as much…for us, making that moment connect with something we both enjoyed doing together was what counted.
